Founded in 1984, the Amalgamates are Tufts' first co-ed a capella singing group. Known around campus as the Mates, the group performs regularly around campus and has released several albums. A track from their most recent release, "Bamboo" (2002), was chosen to appear in the Best of College A cappella 2003, a compilation album of the best tracks recorded by collegiate a cappella groups in the nation.
